VIDEO: Eurocopter X3 helicopter presentation

On 15 June at the Royal Aeronautical Society’s ‘Future of Rotorcraft’ conference was a technical presentation on Eurocopter’s exciting new high-speed compound helicopter demonstrator - the X3 (pronounced ‘X-cubed’ rather than ‘X-three’).

Given by Jean-Michel Billig, executive vp, Research & Development, Eurocopter, it is a fascinating briefing, in two parts on video.

Aerospace International Editor interviewed on Airplane Geeks podcast

This week, Aerospace International Editor Tim Robinson has been interviewed on one of the web’s most popular aviation podcasts, Airplane Geeks, on the effects of the UK’s SDSR on the British military rotorcraft fleet, and how the UK’s Joint Helicopter Command prepares for the challenges of operations in Afghanistan.


This weekly podcast is the no1 aviation-related podcast on iTunes and in the past has featured other aviation journalists, analysts and commentators to talk about current issues in the aerospace community, such as airline strategy, safety and Required Navigation Performance (RNP). Fire-fighting choppers to the rescue!

The wildfires that are now engulfing parts of Western Russia have led to massive devastation, with some 600 fires burning and the smoke and heat visible even from space. The human cost is immense too, with over 50 dead in the forest blazes and the daily death rate in Moscow doubled because of the choking smog. To deal with this, the authorities have resorted to aircrews with a unique mission – aerial fire-fighting and currently some 39 aircraft and helicopters are engaged in battling the fires. One of these types used is  a tough helicopter with an equally tough job.

Farnborough Airshow – Day 4 highlights

Day 4 of the Farnborough airshow and the weather finally turned, with a torrential downpour that sometimes made hearing what people were saying difficult in the halls. The press conference frenzy also quietened down, allowing the aerospace media more time to fan out across the show for more in-depth interviews and one-to-one chats. Go To Item
