The French Air & Space Academy will be visiting the UK and will host an informative evening of aerospace lectures. The evening will commence with a presentation of the Air & Space Academy hosted by Gerard Brachet and will be followed by three short presentations by aerospace experts.

The Speakers

Aerospace sans frontières

David Marshall, Past President, Royal Aeronautical Society

A short history of the RAeS will show how aerospace has always challenged and overcome political and natural boundaries. The future will be no different in this respect and Institutions like the RAeS and Academie de l’air et espace can reflect it and grow with it. Such relationships, and an international outlook, will be key to remaining attractive and relevant to future aerospace generations.

Research in Aeronautics in Europe, Views from ACARE

Alain Garcia, ACARE IT Chairman, Air & Space Academy

The ACARE set up, based on the 2020 Vision, will be outlined. ACARE has created a unique opportunity in Europe to streamline the research in Aeronautics in Europe. It influences not only the EC orientations but also National and privately funded research projects. The effective results from the past and existing research framework program will be illustrated.
The Air Transport System faces now new challenges and consequently a new Vision (towards 2050) has been prepared by a new High Level Group, under the leadership of the EC. It will be published in Madrid on March the 31st so Alain will highlight and comment on the new given orientations.

Research in Aeronautics and Space, Views from the UK

Iain Gray Chief Executive, Technology Strategy Board

The presentation will provide a UK government and a technology perspective of the role that the Technology Strategy Board plays in stimulating innovation across the UK Aerospace and Space industry. It will describe examples of support that the UK Government is making to help to encourage innovation and technology development in the commercial aerospace  and space and communication sector, in line with the industry UK National Aerospace Technology Strategy and the UK Space Leadership Technology Roadmaps. It will provide an update on recent Government policy statements reinforcing the importance of high value manufacturing and its relevance to the aerospace and space industry.
The presentation will finally explore the future challenges imposed by ever demanding environmental considerations, global competitiveness and economics challenges and discuss how this will lead to paradigm shifts in technologies in both a UK National and a broader European context.

Refreshments will be served from 17.30hrs and the lecture will commence at 18.00hrs. There will be a Drinks reception hosted by Air & Space Academy following the lecture.
