VIDEO: Space Shuttle Discovery STS-133 crew presentation

On 27 June 2011 we were invited to satellite operator and communication specialist Inmarsat‘s London HQ, for a very special presentation by the NASA crew of Space Shuttle Discovery.

The astronauts described their experiences on STS-133, the final mission of the Discovery orbiter vehicle, which blasted off on 24 February for its last-ever flight before retirement - a 12 day trip to the ISS.

VIDEO: Eurocopter X3 helicopter presentation

On 15 June at the Royal Aeronautical Society’s ‘Future of Rotorcraft’ conference was a technical presentation on Eurocopter’s exciting new high-speed compound helicopter demonstrator - the X3 (pronounced ‘X-cubed’ rather than ‘X-three’).

Given by Jean-Michel Billig, executive vp, Research & Development, Eurocopter, it is a fascinating briefing, in two parts on video.

‘Spitfire Women’ honoured at RAeS

Aerospace International Editor interviewed on Airplane Geeks podcast

VIDEO: Captain Frank Santoni - Chief Test Pilot, Boeing Commercial Airplanes

On 1 February the Flight Test Group Evening Lecture was given by Captain Frank Santoni - Chief Test Pilot, Commercial Airplanes, Boeing on the 787 and 747-8. A former naval aviator, Captain Santoni now heads the civil aircraft test pilot group at Boeing and, as was described in his introduction during the lecture, “is rated to fly anything with a 7 on the end of it.”

We took the opportunity to ask Captain Santoni about the 787 test schedule, his day-to-day job and the challenges of glass cockpit airliners.

Video interview - Dr Piers Sellers - NASA Astronaut

In December NASA Astronaut Dr Piers Sellers (who was awarded an OBE in the latest UK New Years Honours List) gave the Wilbur and Orville Wright Lecture at the Royal Aeronautical Society, as well as meeting the young winners of the Society’s Meet an Astronaut competition.

We caught up with him to ask him questions on the imminent retirement of the Space Shuttle, space tourism, a manned Mars mission and NASA’s future focus.
